Peter V. Brett:
The Demon Cycle:
Beginning with The Painted Man (The Warded Man in the US) the five part series takes place on a formerly advanced civilization world which has now been reduced to a dark age by the attacks of demons known as 'corelings'. These are powerful beings with magical abilities and differing elemental natures, and each night they emerge from the planet's core to feed on humans, who must take care to be indoors before dark. Against this backdrop the three main characters Arlen, Leesha, and Rojer, pass into maturity and begin individual quests to bring an end to the terror.
Elegy for Darkness - Jacqueline Carey.
This omnibus contains the two novels that comprise 'The Sundering'

The Grim Oak Press signed/limited first edition
He called himself Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever because he dared not believe in the strange alternate world in which he suddenly found himself.
Yet the Land tempted him. He had been sick; now he seemed better than ever before. Through no fault of his own, he had been outcast, unclean, a pariah. Now he was regarded as a reincarnation of the Land's greatest hero--Berek Halfhand--armed with the mystic power of White Gold. That power alone could protect the Lords of the Land from the ancient evil of Despiser, Lord Foul. Only...Covenant had no idea of how the power could be used!
Thus begins one of the most remarkable epic fantasies ever written…

Book III of The Chronicles of Thomas Convenant, Unbeliever
Twice Thomas Covenant has been wrenched out of his bitter life of isolation and scorn to find himself the reluctant instrument of conflict between good and evil in that magical world known as the Land. Again he returns; but now, realizing his responsibility for the Land’s survival, and in angry atonement for having been the cause of so much of its anguish and peril, he will no longer be manipulated. He is prepared to make his own stand against Lord Foul the Despiser, to use—if only he can discover how—the power that is his alone, feared beyond all other by Foul and his minions.
In the cliffside citadel of Revelstone, the Council of Lords is under siege by the seemingly limitless armies raised by Foul’s malignant magic—creatures of hideous form and spirit against whom High Lord Mhoram and his exhausted cohorts must constantly revise their own magic and force of arms. Meanwhile, across the Land, Covenant makes his tortuous way to the Despiser’s stronghold—the keep known as
Foul’s Creche—accompanied by his great friend Saltheart Foamfollower, the Giant whose magnificent strength and resolution are reinforced by his own cause for revenge.
But it is Covenant alone who must meet Foul in final combat, not only to assure survival for the Land but also to achieve salvation for himself in his life beyond it . . . thus bringing to a close Stephen R. Donaldson’s magnificent epic fantasy, The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, the Unbeliever

Additional artwork by Jason Chan and Nate Taylor (who are co-signatories). We have yet to read any of Mark Lawrence's work, but the reviews on the trilogy are highly favourable however, there are some detractors of the violence in the series, particularly the first book.
The blurb for ‘ Prince of Thorns ’ : "Before the thorns taught me their sharp lessons and bled weakness from me I had but one brother, and I loved him well. But those days are gone and what is left of them lies in my mother's tomb. Now I have many brothers, quick with knife and sword, and as evil as you please. We ride this broken empire and loot its corpse. They say these are violent times, the end of days when the dead roam and monsters haunt the night. All that's true enough, but there's something worse out there, in the dark. Much worse. ”
Grim Oak Press is itself something new, established by Shawn Speakman to pay of his medical bills with the help of a variety of SF writer friends incl. The companion omnibus to ‘The Broken Empire’ edition from Grim Oak Press, matching limitation numbers, and limited to 1000 numbered copies signed by Mark Lawrence, Jason Chan, Nate Taylor. The blurb for 'Prince of Fools' - The Red Queen is old but the kings of the Broken Empire dread her like no other. For all her reign, she has fought the long war, contested in secret, against the powers that stand behind nations, for higher stakes than land or gold. Her greatest weapon is The Silent Sister—unseen by most and unspoken of by all.
The Red Queen’s grandson, Prince Jalan Kendeth—drinker, gambler, seducer of women—is one who can see The Silent Sister. Tenth in line for the throne and content with his role as a minor royal, he pretends that the hideous crone is not there. But war is coming. Witnesses claim an undead army is on the march, and the Red Queen has called on her family to defend the realm. Jal thinks it’s all a rumor—nothing that will affect him—but he is wrong.
After escaping a death trap set by the Silent Sister, Jal finds his fate magically intertwined with a fierce Norse warrior. As the two undertake a journey across the Empire to undo the spell, encountering grave dangers, willing women, and an upstart prince named Jorg Ancrath along the way, Jalan gradually catches a glimmer of the truth: he and the Norseman are but pieces in a game, part of a series of moves in the long war—and the Red Queen controls the board.

“Our Dragon doesn’t eat the girls he takes, no matter what stories they tell outside our valley. We hear them sometimes, from travelers passing through. They talk as though we were doing human sacrifice, and he were a real dragon. Of course that’s not true: he may be a wizard and immortal, but he’s still a man, and our fathers would band together and kill him if he wanted to eat one of us every ten years. He protects us against the Wood, and we’re grateful, but not that grateful.”
Agnieszka loves her valley home, her quiet village, the forests and the bright shining river. But the corrupted Wood stands on the border, full of malevolent power, and its shadow lies over her life.
Her people rely on the cold, driven wizard known only as the Dragon to keep its powers at bay. But he demands a terrible price for his help: one young woman handed over to serve him for ten years, a fate almost as terrible as falling to the Wood.
The next choosing is fast approaching, and Agnieszka is afraid. She knows—everyone knows—that the Dragon will take Kasia: beautiful, graceful, brave Kasia, all the things Agnieszka isn’t, and her dearest friend in the world. And there is no way to save her.
But Agnieszka fears the wrong things. For when the Dragon comes, it is not Kasia he will choose.

Together in one volume, here are the first three novels in Naomi Novik’s New York Times bestselling Temeraire series, combining the gripping history of the Napoleonic era, the thrill of Anne McCaffrey’s Dragonriders of Pern books, and the excitement of Patrick O’Brian’s seafaring adventures.
Capt. Will Laurence is serving with honor in the British Navy when his ship captures a French frigate harboring a most unusual cargo–an incalculably valuable dragon egg. When the egg hatches, Laurence unexpectedly becomes the master of the young dragon Temeraire and finds himself on an extraordinary journey that will shatter his orderly, respectable life and alter the course of his nation’s history.
Thrust into England’s Aerial Corps, Laurence and Temeraire undergo rigorous training while staving off French forces intent on breaching British soil. But the pair has more than France to contend with when China learns that an imperial dragon intended for Napoleon–Temeraire himself– has fallen into British hands. The emperor summons the new pilot and his dragon to the Far East, a long voyage fraught with peril and intrigue. From England’s shores to China’s palaces, from the Silk Road’s outer limits to the embattled borders of Prussia and Poland, Laurence and Temeraire must defend their partnership and their country from powerful adversaries around the globe. But can they succeed against the massed forces of Bonaparte’s implacable army?
Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn series by bestselling author Tad Williams, introduced readers to the magical world of Osten Ard and secured its status as one of the most important epic fantasies of our time.
A war fueled by the powers of dark sorcery is about to engulf the peaceful land of Osten Ard—for Prester John, the High King and slayer of the dragon Shurakai, lies dying. With his death, a long-dormant evil will at last be unleashed, as the Storm King, undead ruler of the elvish Sithi, seizes the chance to regain his lost realm through a pact with the newly ascended king. Recognizing the consequences of this bargain, the king’s younger brother joins with a small, scattered group of scholars, the League of the Scroll, to confront the true danger threatening Osten Ard.
Simon, a kitchen boy from the royal castle who is unknowingly apprenticed to a member of the League, dreams of great deeds and heroic wars that become all too shockingly real when his world is torn apart by ancient hatreds and immortal enemies, poisoned by a sorcerous force sworn to annihilate the humans whose ancestors drove the Sithi from their rightful home.
Simon will be sent on a quest that offers the only hope of salvation, a deadly riddle
concerning long-lost swords of power. Compelled by fate and perilous magics, he
must leave the only home he’s ever known and face enemies more terrifying than Osten Ard has ever seen, even as the land itself begins to die.

And in a marvelous land of men and dwarves, of wizards and gods, five young people discovered who they were truly meant to be.
