Science Fiction Book Club

Previous

The Science Fiction Book Club or Readers Union was the UK equivalent of the American club of the same name. They both started around 1953 with the UK version finishing in 1982, the similarities stop there. The UK club started out well and ended rather poorly. Given all the fantastic artwork on SF books in general what was notable of the UK club was the terrible cover designs used and there is still some speculation on what exactly the ‘blob’ is on the John Griffiths covers which started around 1962 (see Way Station cover below). Anyway, we’ve picked up a bunch of SFBC copies over the years, but these seem to be getting scarcer now.
